This much planted evergreen shrub is fast growing, very hardy, it flourishes in any garden garden soil other than shallow chalk. Elaeagnus tolerates the most exposed challenging coastal and windy locations. Requiring a minimum of pruning this shrub is often grown as a loose hedge or planted for shelter or privacy at the back of a border: restrict size by pruning to shape and removing dead wood. Mulch occasionally to feed.
