This creeping ground hugging perennial makes great ground cover, forming a carpet of glossy purple foliage and producing masses small spikes of dark blue flowers early summer. Ideal as edging plant or planted on mass. Bugle is a good low input all-rounder for under planting around trees and shrubs, or as shade loving ground cover.
Ajuga reptans - Cultivation Notes
Bugle requires little maintenance, spreading naturally into a low growing dense weed suppressing ground cover. Flourishing on most soils but preferring a fertile soil that is not to dry, this a hardy plant, growing in full sun but preferring partial or full shade.
